PADI IDC

CHALLENGE YOURSELF, CHANGE YOUR LIFE

The Instructor Development Course (IDC) is aimed at developing your in-water control, observation and judgement. We also explain how to interpret PADI standards and provide the foundations on which you build your teaching style.

Our IDC is an intense yet fun-packed course that ensures you become the best PADI Pro you can be. The Instructor Examination (IE) is a necessary part of the process to become a PADI Open Water Scuba Instructor (OWSI) but is not the focus of an IDC with us. Our IDC is designed to truly prepare you for your first course.

We provide an innovative IDC that is designed to deliver maximum value through comprehensive workshops, extra assessments, and thorough critique on your performance from highly experienced professionals.

The IDC is run over the 14 days before the Instructor Examination.

The IDC is divided into five sections:

1

IDC E-LEARNING

PADI’s IDC eLearning is a self-study program designed to help you get familiar with the PADI system and prepare you for the workshops that we will run together. It includes 16 interactive segments that you read through on your personal tablet, phone, or computer.

2

WORKSHOPS

Interactive workshops help you learn by doing. After we demonstrate or discuss concepts you apply the knowledge that you gained from the IDC eLearning. We provide tips, techniques and guidance, but we also expect you to try out your ideas and learn from the IDC experience.

3

DIVING & WATERSKILL

CONFINED & OPEN WATER assessments give you the opportunity to fine-tune your in-water teaching style. You prepare and give an in-water microteaching presentation (from your assigned skills), which we will evaluate and discuss during the debrief. This is also fantastic opportunity to learn from your fellow candidates!

4

CLASSROOM

Classroom assessments challenge you to teach dive theory in an exciting way, which your students will remember and apply in the water. You prepare to teach dive theory to students prescriptively (helping answer questions they got wrong on an exam, quiz, or knowledge review). You will be given a question from a PADI course to prepare. We ask you to explain the concept in a fun and engaging way.

5

EXAMS

PADI STANDARDS & PROCEDURES: During the workshops we explain how to find standards in the PADI Instructor Manual and how to correctly interpret them. You then take an open-book exam with a pass mark of 75%, to demonstrate your understanding.

DIVE THEORY: Teaching dive theory is not scheduled into the IDC, we expect you to come prepared. Please Sign up for our Dive Theory Preparation at least 2 weeks before the start of the IDC, so we can help you get a solid grasp of the concepts and knowledge you need. We will give you plenty of practise exams during the IDC. The final exam is closed book and a 75% score is needed to pass the IDC.
